| Beginning in January 2002, the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) began to collect sunlight information and other weather data from two specialized weather stations located in Hempstead and Riverhead. |
LIPA is offering financial incentives to its
customers to install a technology called "Photovoltaics" (abbreviated as
"PV") that converts sunlight directly to electricity. (More information is
available at www.lipower.orgon LIPAs rebate programs.) This website uses local weather data
from the two stations. By knowing the suns position, the local weather, and a few
things about the PV system, it is possible to estimate the amount of power that should be
produced. |
| This website is designed to do two things. First, if
you already have a PV system, it will allow you to verify that your system is performing
well. Second, if you are interested in installing a PV system, it will allow you to
estimate how much electricity will be produced. All you need to do is click on one of the
buttons below to begin: |
